Signal Hill Historical Society Meeting
The Signal Hill Historical Society will hold a general meeting open to the public tonight at 6:30 in the Signal Hill Library, located at 1770 East Hill Street. Women’s Equality in Diverse Cultures
The Long Beach chapter of the League of Women Voters is hosting a panel discussion on women’s equality Saturday, Mar. 15 from 10 a.m. to noon. Guests include: Sara Pol-Lim, executive director of the United Cambodian Community; Jessica Quintana, executive director of the Long Beach Community Hispanic Association; Gerrie Schipske, 5th District council member for the city of Long Beach; and Doris Topsy-Elvord, commissioner of the Long Beach Harbor Board. Groundwater Festival
The Water Replenishment District of Southern California invites the public to join them Saturday, Mar. 15 at its Groundwater Festival, organized in celebration of National Groundwater Awareness Week. The free event will offer food, games, prizes and educational information. The festival is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Water Replenishment District, located at 4040 Paramount Boulevard in Lakewood. Genealogical Society Meeting
The Questing Heirs Genealogical Society of Long Beach will have its monthly meeting on Sunday, March 16 in the Parish Hall of the Resurrection Lutheran Church, located at 1900 East Carson Street in Long Beach. The meeting, which starts at 12:30 p.m., will offer one-on-one or small-group help for guests and afterward a panel presentation entitled “Professional Genealogists–Who Needs Them?” will be given. Tea Party
The public is invited to a tea party hosted by Long Beach Councilwoman Rae Gabelich and the Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association Sunday, March 16 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Elise’s Tea Room. Candidates Forum
Lowell Elementary School is hosting a candidates forum on Wednesday, March 19 at 7 p.m. in its auditorium. Each candidate will speak for three minutes to make a statement about his/her candidacy and then questions will be presented, starting with the candidate who raises a hand first. Pulse of the Ports
Find out what the experts are predicting at this year’s “Pulse of the Ports” peak season forecast conference hosted by the Port of Long Beach Wednesday, March 19 at 7:30 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach, located at 200 South Pine Avenue. Featured speakers will discuss how the softening import market, national economic outlook, federal TWIC security requirements, labor negotiations and other factors will affect port cargo traffic. Health Screening
Memorial Hospital of Long Beach will be having a free cardiac health screening for women on Monday, March 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cardiac screening includes blood pressure, body mass index, and glucose and cholesterol checks.
