Six candidates filed paperwork before the Los Angeles County Registrar of Voters’ deadline on Aug. 8 to run for the Division 3 seat on the Water Replenishment District of Southern California (WRD) Board of Directors in the Nov. 4 election. Candidates who filed nomination papers by the filing deadline include: John Allen, a Long Beach water commissioner; Larry Andre, a Lakewood business owner; incumbent Lynn Dymally, a retired adjunct professor at California State University, Long Beach; Mason Inocentes, a Lakewood resident and water consultant; former 5th District Long Beach Councilmember Gerrie Schipske; and former 7th District Long Beach councilmember Tonia Reyes-Uranga.
The Division 3 seat was left vacant from the passing of Lillian Kawasaki and represents the cities of Long Beach, Lakewood, Cerritos, Signal Hill, Artesia, La Mirada and Hawaiian Gardens. Candidates who filed paperwork for Division 1 include: Daniela Calderon, a restaurant manager and mother; Mervin Evans, an author and consultant; James T. Law, a minister and disabilities advocate; incumbent Willard H. Murray, Jr.; and Jonnie Roberts, Jr., a public-affairs consultant. Candidates who filed paperwork for Division 4 include incumbent Sergio Calderon and Gerardo Rodriguez, an insurance agent and engineer.
