Well, it’s time once again for kids to head back to school. Long Beach schools start on Wednesday, Sept. 3.
I hope you have had a great summer and managed to get to at least one or two concerts or movies in the park.
My office recently held our third annual Back to School Summer Blast event at Ed “Pops” Davenport Park. In addition to connecting residents with local community resources, we provided free backpacks, containing school supplies, to hundreds of children preparing to go back to school. Thank you to LaVerne Duncan and the Andy Street Community Foundation for partnering with us.
On Sept. 6, we’ll hold another backpack giveaway at Scherer Park [4600 Long Beach Blvd. from 10am to noon].
