The Long Beach Lambda Democratic Club will host its 33rd annual Human Rights Banquet and Awards Dinner on Saturday, Oct. 11 at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach, 200 S. Pine Ave.
The Human Rights Banquet is the premier annual fundraising event for the Long Beach Lambda Democratic Club, and money raised from the banquet assists the organization in its advocacy efforts to support the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) community, according to Lambda. Additionally, the banquet provides an opportunity for the club to recognize community and political leaders who have made significant contributions within the LGBT community.
This year, the Long Beach Lambda Democratic Club recognize the following individuals:
•LBUSD Board Member John McGinnis— Franklin Cook Memorial Award (given to a state or local political figure for their support of human rights and the LBGT community)
• Cory Allen— President’s Award (given to an individual or group selected by Lambda’s president for their support of the LGBT community)
• Porter Gilberg, executive director of The Center— Jean Harris Person of the Year Award (given to a member of the LGBT community for their efforts toward furthering human rights and the visibility of the LGBT community)
• Herlinda Chico— Senator Jenny Oropeza Ally of the Year Award (given to an ally for their support of the LGBT community)
• The Hyatt Regency Long Beach— Donald Snow Memorial (given to a non-political organization for their efforts toward furthering human rights and the visibility of the LGBT community)
• Laborers 1309— Rob Kramme Memorial Award (given to an organization for their efforts toward furthering human rights and the visibility of the LGBT community through political activism)
• Sharon Raphael and Mina Meyer— Paul Self Memorial Award (given to a member of the Long Beach Lambda Democratic Club for their demonstrated leadership toward furthering human rights and the visibility of the LGBT community)
