LB Symphony to present surf-related concert

The Long Beach Symphony POPS! will perform a Surfin’ Safari on Saturday, Oct. 18 under the direction of Grammy-nominated David Benoit, who was commissioned by the Symphony to arrange a medley of surf classics that will be presented with the vocal ensemble Papa Doo Run Run.

The symphony will perform Beach Boys classics like “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” and “Help Me, Rhonda” as well as other surf-related tunes like “Wipe Out.”

Benoit will be joined by Papa Doo Run Run, a band that specializes in songs from the heyday of surf music in the 1960s.

“This will be a season of favorite conductors and fun with top entertainers and our fabulous orchestra,” said the symphony’s executive director, Kelly Ruggirello. “The Long Beach Symphony POPS! concerts are a unique experience in Southern California. We encourage everyone to gather at Saturday’s concert for what promises to be a memorable and thoroughly enjoyable performance.”
Arena seating starts at $21. To purchase tickets, call (562) 436-3203, ext. 232, or visit lbso.org .
