The 18th annual Long Beach Veterans Day Parade will take place Saturday, Nov. 8 with a theme of “A Salute to Those Who Served” to honor men and women who have served in all branches of the United States military.
This year’s parade will step off from the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Harding Street, proceed south on Atlantic to 56th Street, make a U-turn and return to the step-off point. The activity will begin at 10am.
“We are expecting a really great parade for this year,” said Martha Thuente, event coordinator. “This is the first time in recent years that we have had representatives from every branch of the military participating. We have a stellar line-up of bands and other types of units in the line of march. This is one parade not to be missed.”
More than 100 participants, including more than a half dozen marching bands, will also be featured in this year’s parade, according to Thuente. The parade will begin at 10am on Atlantic Avenue, stretching from Harding Street to 56th Street.
Immediately after the parade, the Vets Fest will take place at Houghton Park, at the corner of Harding Street and Atlantic Avenue. The festival is free and open to the public. It will feature music performed by the Long Beach Community Band, as well as a kids zone, food booths and representatives of military organizations, city departments and nonprofits.
