Choosing Jessie Nelson Academy as the recipient of a $2,500 donation, The Signal Hill Chamber of Commerce presented a check at their Oct. 23 luncheon to two of the school’s representatives. On hand to receive the donation were principal Sparkle Petersen and vice principal Alma Black. According to Petersen, the monies will be used for the school’s Female Academy and attendance-incentive programs. During the presentation, Chamber board member Shari Blackwell stated that one of the chamber’s goals is to give back to the Signal Hill community a portion of funds accrued from the organization’s fundraisers and membership fees.
