On Dec. 13, police located a vehicle submerged in the Los Cerritos Channel at 5th Street, east of Silvera Avenue. It was believed that the vehicle couldÂÂ possibly be the vehicle related to the missing person’s investigation involving 20-year-old Ashlee Armond.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel, including their dive team, responded to the location and began a rescue operation. The vehicle was identified as the 2001 green Honda Civic being driven by Armond. The driver of the vehicle was located, removed and pronounced deceased at the scene. It was determined that the driver was Armond.
The preliminary investigation revealed that she was traveling eastbound on 5th Street when she failed to stop at the end of the roadway and drove into the Los Cerritos Channel. Based on their investigation, detectives believe the collision was “accidental.”
The Long Beach Police Dive team responded to recover the vehicle from the channel.
Earlier that day, LBPD had received a missing-person report of the 20-year-old Long Beach female.
