The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) conducted a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint on Anaheim Street and Gundry Avenue on Saturday, Jan. 25 from 7pm to 3am. According to the LBPD, the eight-hour operation, which was aided by Long Beach Police Explorers and Long Beach Search and Rescue, yielded the following results:
• 1,219 vehicles passed through the checkpoint with 549 drivers being screened for impairment
• three people were arrested for driving under the influence
• six drivers were issued traffic citations
• seven people were cited for being unlicensed drivers
• one person was cited for driving on a suspended license
• one vehicle was towed
This operation was funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The LBPD will conduct another checkpoint on Jan. 30, according to police.
