Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping, robbery and torture of a 22-year-old Long Beach man, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).
On Feb. 21, at approximately 9:30am, officers were dispatched to a local bank in the 5700 block of East Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach to investigate a possible crime and discovered a male adult had been the victim of kidnapping, robbery and torture.
Officers responding to the bank interviewed the victim, who was with another male subject, later identified as 20-year-old Patrick Adams of Long Beach. During their investigation, officers learned that the victim had ultimately been kidnapped, assaulted, tortured and robbed over several hours at a residence in Long Beach by multiple suspects, including Adams. When officers learned of Adams’s involvement, they took him into custody. Adams had taken the victim to the bank to withdraw money, and the victim was able to notify the bank to call police. The victim was then transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Robbery detectives continued the investigation, which revealed that Adams and the victim had known each other socially. Adams had arranged for the victim to meet him at his residence in the 4700 block of Malta Street. Once the victim arrived, Adams and additional suspects tied him up and assaulted him with blunt-force instruments. While assulting and torturing him, they demanded money.
At some point during the assault, one of the suspects took the victim’s vehicle, drove to his apartment and took items from his home. On Feb. 23, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department came into contact with the vehicle, which by then had been reported stolen, in Dana Point. The person in the vehicle, 23-year-old Eric Riddle-Rios of Anaheim, was taken into custody.
As detectives continued their investigation, and followed up on leads, they discovered that a third suspect involved in the ordeal resided in San Diego. On Friday, Feb. 27, detectives traveled to San Diego and arrested 21-year-old Ryan Scott Urban at his home, located in the 16000 block of Santa Cristobal Street.
The suspects were all transferred to the custody of Los Angeles County Men’s Jail on various bail amounts. LBPD robbery detectives presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, and the following charges were filed against the suspects on the respective dates:
• Patrick Adams (Feb. 25)— torture, kidnapping, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, criminal threats, false imprisonment and kidnapping to commit a robbery
• Eric Riddle-Rios (Feb. 26)— torture, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and false imprisonment
