Arts & Services For Disabled (ASD), one of The Found [Theatre]’s oldest and most beloved community partners, had a couple of tough breaks this week— no pun intended. Their beautiful, art-filled oasis on PCH, just one of four of their facilities providing therapeutic art, music, theatre and other services to severely disabled adults, was burglarized twice in one week. Lost were all laptops, tablets, cameras and many of the other important tools of their trade.
We’ve always loved and partnered with ASD for many reasons, not the least of which is their commitment to bring the joy of art into the lives of everyone among us— and to do it on the same kind of shoestring budget on which The Found has always operated. To steal a great line from John Waters, “They really know how to make a dollar holler.”
ASD is estimating its loss at more than $10,000. While we probably can’t match that, with the help of our loyal audience members, I think we can help them a long way towards that goal. When we held an emergency fundraiser for Doctors Without Borders just three days after the devastating Haiti earthquake, we raised an astounding $4,000 in one night. Let’s see what we can do for ASD.
The Friday, March 20 performance of our best-selling show Beyond The Valley Of The Flight Attendants: The Musical! will be a fundraiser for ASD, with 100 percent of ticket and refreshment sales going to them. Please spread the word to your friends and family members.
If you would like to provide a desirable item to raffle off at the event, or provide baked goods to sell, that would be greatly appreciated too. It all adds up to getting ASD back at full steam. Donations of replacement equipment are also appreciated.
