Local organizations LBNeighborhoods First and HUSH2 will host a community meeting on Monday, April 20 at 6:30pm at the Expo Arts Center, 4321 Atlantic Ave., to provide information following previously secretive, now temporarily halted, actions by some city officials to facilitate international flights at Long Beach Airport (LGB), according to those organizations.
According to the event’s organizers, a federal customs facility couldn’t be limited to a single carrier, could include cargo flights and could invite risks from an entirely new category of international operators to the airport ordinance, which is what currently protects Long Beach and surrounding areas from unlimited numbers of flights at all hours on all runways.
At the meeting, Long Beach City Attorney Charles Parkin, Assistant City Attorney Mike Mais and City Prosecutor Doug Haubert will discuss LGB’s litigation history and offer their opinions on what could occur if a federal customs facility were allowed at the airport.
