The ‘O’ word
I read with interest your commentary about organic food [“It’s not all about organic,” May 15, 2015].
Let’s face it— we live in a society where labels are “in.” In my opinion, “organic” is just another label that people find justification in paying more for food. Like paying $175 for jeans made of ordinary material or $400 for sunglasses made of plastic with the label of a famous designer.
I agree that one should wash vegetables before eating them to remove dirt and possible pesticides, which I do. But to pay more for a label is beyond me. I’ll just continue to eat regular food like the ordinary folk. At Trader Joe’s, I’ll continue to pay 19 cents for a banana rather than the 29 cents for the label “organic.”
