Ninth District Long Beach City Councilmember Rex Richardson and Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) Board Member Megan Kerr acknowledged Jordan High School college- and armed forces-bound graduates Wednesday by celebrating the placement of banners near the school that feature the names of those students. Richardson and Kerr also announced recommendations to support youth headed to college and/or career paths. College readiness is one of four main areas of focus for the North Long Beach Whole Village Initiative that was formed in October 2014.

The North Long Beach Whole Village College Readiness Task Force consists of selected community leaders and city staff who designed innovative ways to increase college awareness and help youth continue on to college and career paths. In the last six months, members of the task force crafted two recommendations to place a greater focus on enriching the lives of students and families in the area: to host a series of programs around college readiness and trade career paths; and to recognize college-bound scholars.
“We are proud to honor these Jordan students,” Kerr said. “These banners allow the community to see what we already know is true— that our students are serious about their education and are college-bound.”
