Six contemporary artists whose work range in style from sculpture to paint, and from the surreal and the abstract to the more realist approach, will be featured in an exhibit at 4th Street Vine, 2142 E. 4th St. from Friday, June 26 to Friday, Aug. 28. The show, entitled Plagues and Pleasures, is inspired by a quote by poet Rainer Maria Rilke: “Don’t take my devils away, because my angels may flee too.”

According to the show’s organizers, both good and evil are necessary for survivial, each side of the spectrum being equally vital. “It’s the sadness that lets us know true happiness, the dark that lets us know the light,” states a press release from the exhibit’s organizers. “The artists selected for this show represent one or the other, sometimes both.”
Curated by artist Sarah Abramson, the show will include artists Robert Deutsch, Elizabeth McGrath, Ryan McIntosh, Brianna Miller, Mr. Basic and Ryan Schude.
