A 62-year-old woman was killed after being struck by a car Tuesday while crossing southbound on Pacific Coast Highway, east of Lemon Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).
At approximately 9:02pm, officers from the LBPD were dispatched to the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Lemon Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
Officers discovered a female pedestrian who had sustained major injuries. They provided first aid until the arrival of Long Beach Fire Department paramedics, who transported her to a local hospital. She died from her injuries approximately three hours after the collision, according to officials.
The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was crossing southbound on Pacific Coast Highway, east of Lemon Avenue. As she was crossing, she was struck by a 2002 Hyundai Sonata traveling eastbound on Pacific Coast Highway.
The driver of the Hyundai, a 36-year-old resident of Long Beach, remained at the scene and was interviewed by officials and later released.
The identity of the pedestrian is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.
