LB Mayor's tourney to benefit amateur, youth athletics

Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia will join business and community leaders and local golfers in a day of golf and philanthropy when he hosts the 9th Annual Long Beach Mayor’s Trophy Charity Golf Tournament on Thursday, Aug. 27 at Skylinks Golf Course.
Leading a group of Long Beach-area businesses and individuals confirmed to sponsor the event, Advanced Cleanup Technologies, Inc. (ACTI)— a firm specializing in environmental-emergency response, hazardous-waste management, industrial cleaning, waste minimization, confined-space entry, transportation services and air pollution control technology has lent its support as Title Sponsor. Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe will serve as the event’s emcee, as well.
This year, 100 percent of the net proceeds will benefit the Long Beach Century Club, a nonprofit organization that supports amateur and youth athletics— including the Special Olympics and the athletic programs at California State University Long Beach, Long Beach City College and after-school sports programs in the Long Beach Unified School District and provides educational scholarships for Long Beach high school scholar-athletes, according to sponsors.
“ACTI is proud to give back to the Long Beach community through our Title Sponsorship of the Mayor’s Trophy,” said Ruben Garcia, ACTI president. “Providing young people with healthy recreational alternatives and exposing them to the many positive life skills learned through sports are critical in helping them prepare for future success— and we are happy to support the Long Beach Century Club in its mission to do just that.”
The Mayor’s Trophy will include: a handicap scramble-format charity golf tournament featuring on-course contests, including a hole-in-one contest for $10,000; lunch provided by Chick-fil-A; and an awards dinner featuring live entertainment by Gregg Young and the 2nd Street Band, a silent auction, a live auction conducted by “Container Wars” celebrity auctioneer John Kunkle and a culinary experience provided by many of Long Beach’s restaurants, including Tantalum, Naples Rib Company, Joe Jost’s, Gladstone’s Long Beach, Buono’s, Café Sevilla, Buffalo Wild Wings, Legends, Tilted Kilt, The Boathouse and Forbidden City.
In addition to ACTI, sponsors confirmed include: Gold Sponsors Port of Long Beach and Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe; and Silver Sponsors Englander, Knabe and Allen, NRG Energy, City, Light & Power, Farmers & Merchants Bank, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, TABC, Long Beach Container Terminal, AES Alamitos, CRC, Downtown Long Beach Associates, Long Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau, EZ Links, RBC Wealth Management and BNSF; Hole Sponsors The Queen Mary, LBS Financial Credit Union and the Long Beach Airport; Supporting Sponsors Jet Blue, Southern Wine & Spirits, Boeing and Choura Events; and in-kind donors the Water Replenishment District of Southern California (WRD), David Musty Putters, Invigorade and the PGA TOUR.
