The City of Long Beach, in collaboration with the Downtown Long Beach Associates (DLBA), will have a street parking-meter holiday, starting on Friday, July 24, at midnight through Sunday, July 26, at 11:59pm, in response to last week’s nearly five-day power outage. On-street parking in downtown Long Beach will be free throughout the 72-hour period.
“We know that the power outage negatively affected all who call downtown Long Beach home, including our businesses that contribute to a thriving downtown,” said Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia. “By having a parking meter holiday, we are encouraging everyone to come shop, eat and enjoy all that downtown Long Beach has to offer.”
During the meter holiday, motorists can park at an on-street meter without having to pay for hourly parking. Two-hour limits for street meter parking, 24-minute limits at green curbs, as well as the red, white, yellow, blue curb limits will remain in effect during the parking-meter holiday.
“We came together as a community during the crisis, and it’s time we come together again and bring our dollars downtown,” said Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal.
The City Place garages located in downtown Long Beach will continue to remain free for the first two hours as well. City Place garages A, B and C are accessible on 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th streets, between Pine Avenue and Long Beach Boulevard. No validation is required for the first two hours.
“By coming together over this weekend, we celebrate our community that weathered this outage together, and show our support for our businesses,” said 1st District Councilmember Lena Gonzalez.
