The Veterans Digital Photography Therapy Program will host a photography exhibition and art show at the Gina M. Woodruff Gallery, 5555 E. Stearns St., Suite 203, on Friday, July 24 from 6pm to 9pm, according to Long Beach Veterans Affairs.
The program entitled “Seeing the World Creatively” is based on the concept that innovative programs can lift the spirit and help veterans find a sense of purpose and a new way to integrate with others and reconnect in and with their community.
The program provides instruction on the elements of design, rules of composition and color and lighting, and it is volunteer- and veterans-run, with one-on-one instruction available for camera and computer basics.
“I have gained much more confidence, which has improved my creative freedom, taking pictures and learning new ways to use Photoshop,” said Marianne C. Choate, veteran of the U.S. Navy. “I can now help and teach other veterans within our group.”
Another veteran— from the U.S. Air Force— also found the program helpful.
“The photography program has opened my eyes to the simple beauties in life once again,” Alvin M. Stams II said. “It helps me calm my mind enough to enjoy it.”
