Conductor Edwin Outwater will return for Long Beach Symphony’s 2015-16 season
The Long Beach Symphony will host performances for its 2015-16 season that will feature three of its conductors from last season, in addition to three new maestros.
The symphony’s new season will combine American, French, German and Russian pieces with works by composers such as Lukas Foss, Ticheli and Samuel Barber.
Some of the symphony’s own artists will be featured, as well, such as flutist Heather Clark, harpist Marcia Dickstein, cellist Cécilia Tsan, local soprano Elissa Johnston, pianist Natasha Paremski and concertmaster Roger Wilkie.
The Long Beach Symphony’s opening night on Oct. 10 will feature music from the late Romantic period, led by returning conductor Edwin Outwater. The program will also includes Berlioz’s short “Roman Carnival Overture,” Lalo’s “Symphonie Espagnole” and Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition,” a 10-movement suite transcribed for orchestra by Maurice Ravel.
The symphony will host performances until the season ends in June.
“Long Beach Symphony is on solid ground, ending in a surplus again last fiscal year,” said executive director Kelly Ruggirello. “We are able to attract top talent for our music director search, and because of all that, we and the City of Long Beach have to offer: world-class musicians, top-notch arts and cultural institutions, a temperate climate, beautiful beaches, a wide variety of recreational opportunities and highly-rated schools that all contribute greatly to the desirability of the position.”
