Long Beach police officers have arrested a man in connection with a murder that occurred earlier this year.
On June 22, around 8:45am, Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers were dispatched to the area of the 800 block of Cedar Avenue regarding a shooting call. They subsequently located the body of of 37-year-old Douglas Wilson of Long Beach.
On Aug. 1, around 5:50pm, officers initiated an investigation involving a vehicle in the 1300 block of Ohio Avenue. A passenger, who officers recognized as a subject wanted in connection with the June homicide, fled from the vehicle. Officers established a containment perimeter to locate him with the assistance of air support and K9 services. Around 8:15pm, 26-year-old Jorge Luis Cruz of Long Beach was taken into custody.
On Aug. 3, Cruz appeared in Long Beach Superior Court; however, his arraignment in connection with Wilson’s murder was postponed until Aug. 18. He is currently being held in Los Angeles County Jail on $2,000,000 bail.
