An altercation between two groups has resulted in the death of a 23-year-old male when shots were fired, and he was struck and killed, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).
LBPD officers were dispatched on Sunday, Aug. 23 at 10pm to a shots-fired call on Pacific Coast Highway near Pine Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered a male, adult subject down in the street who had been struck by gunfire.
The Long Beach Fire Department paramedics were requested, and the LBPD officers began performing life-saving measures until their arrival. The victim was transported to a local hospital, and he was determined deceased shortly thereafter.
The preliminary investigation determined that the victim arrived at a liquor store at that location, where an altercation between two groups of males was already occurring. The victim had just gotten out of his vehicle when he was struck in the upper torso by gunfire.
The victim has been identified as Andra Berero of Long Beach. The incident is being investigated as possibly gang-related.
