A 35-year-old Long Beach man is dead after a one-vehicle accident on the 710 Freeway Thursday.
On Nov. 5 at approximately 12:11am, Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers responded to the southbound 710 Freeway, at West Shoreline Drive south of the 6th Street off ramp, regarding an injury traffic collision.
When officers arrived, they discovered an overturned 2009 Pontiac Vibe. Long Beach Fire Department paramedics responded and determined the driver deceased at the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the Pontiac was traveling southbound on the 710 Freeway and being driven by a 35-year-old resident of Long Beach. According to witnesses, the driver lost control of the vehicle, and it began to spin sideways. The vehicle slid toward the west curb, down the west embankment, overturned and collided with a tree. It appears the driver was not seat-belted at the time of the collision and was partially ejected through the sunroof. No other vehicles or parties were involved in the incident.
The identity of the driver is being withheld, pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
