Last Thursday, Target donated $1,000 to the Signal Hill Police Department’s Explorer program, which gives young people the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in law enforcement and build leadership skills.
The donation will help pay for local participants to attend the National Exploring Conference. “At these conferences, Explorers get to participate in competitions and attend conferences and training, as well as getting to meet and work with Explorers from other departments across the country,” said Don Moreau, Signal Hill Police Officer. “Many Explorers are looking at law enforcement as a career, and this is a good way for them to decide if this is a field they want to go into. Explorers volunteer thier time with the police department by going on ride-alongs with officers, assisting with checkpoints and other community events, and receive training at regular meetings.”
