The primary nominating election for Long Beach city councilmembers will take place on Tuesday, April 12. Council seats in the even-numbered districts are up for grabs. However, because Daryl Supernaw, incumbent for the 4th District, was running unopposed, the city council voted to forego having his name on the ballot and grant him a second term. Candidates for the 2nd District are Joen Garnica, Eric Gray and Jeannine Pearce. Because the 6th and 8th Districts are closest to the distribution area for the Signal Tribune, we have asked the qualified candidates in those two districts to share information about themselves, their platforms and endorsements. Those six candidates submitted the following information, and we are publishing their responses in alphabetical order. (Sixth District incumbent City Councilmember Dee Andrews is pursuing a third term as a write-in candidate.) Next week, we will publish information from the candidates for Long Beach Unified School District Governing Board Areas 2 and 4 and the Long Beach City College Board of Trustees Districts 2 and 4.
