A 28-year-old male resident of Huntington Beach is dead after being hit while crossing the street as a pedestrian last weekend.
On Saturday, March 19, at approximately 11:50pm, officers from the Long Beach Police Department were dispatched to the 3300 block of South Street regarding an injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.
Upon arrival, officers observed Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics performing lifesaving medical aid on the pedestrian.
He was later transported to a local hospital, where he remained in critical condition.
The preliminary investigation revealed that he was crossing southbound across South Street west of Downey Avenue.
He was not in a crosswalk when he was struck by a 1997 Honda Accord that was traveling eastbound on South Street. That vehicle was being driven by a 32-year-old resident of Bellflower. The driver remained at the scene, and he was interviewed and later released.
On March 20, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The pedestrian’s identification is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
