This year’s event will have new attractions: a healing garden (sponsored by Southland Physical Therapy, Day Wellness and Juice Plus), a car show and an exhibit by the Boat Builders from McBride High School (sponsored by Marina Shipyard.) McBride High School Engineering Students have been building a solar-powered boat that will be entered in the nation’s largest boat competition as part of Metropolitan Water District’s 14th annual Solar Cup. The students, along with instructor Fred Olmedo, will have their boat on display and will be on site to talk about the competition.
There will also be live entertainment from Smithfield Bargain, Corrina Carter and Kick it Up Dance Studios, and “Aunt Jean’s Kid’s Korner” will have a bouncy house, face painting and Mother’s Day arts and crafts project for kids. There will also be a special appearance by Holistic Revolutions, with Hula-Hoop activities.
Taste at the Point began in 2010 by Lynda DeWitt, who had been helped by BCA in 2002. After personally receiving BCA assistance, DeWitt wanted to give back to the organization, and for the last six years she has been organizing the event. To date, her events have raised over $140,000 for women in treatment for breast cancer, according to organizers.
