Vivian Munson, who served as Signal Hill’s deputy city clerk until August 2007, will not have to go to prison for embezzlement. Charged with three felony counts related to her misuse of a city credit card from 2003 to 2007, Munson entered into a plea bargain with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.
At Superior Court in Long Beach on October 30, she pled guilty to a single felony embezzlement charge. As a result, she was sentenced to three years of probation and 250 hours of community service.
Munson’s conviction bars her from holding an appointed or elected position for a governmental agency. She will also have to give restitution to the City of Signal Hill. The amount will be determined at a hearing scheduled for December 12.
Last month, Munson, who now lives in San Bernardino, resigned from her position as Lake Elsinore City Clerk. City officials there had pressured her to quit because of the criminal charges pending against her.
