A bad sign?
With the upcoming election bearing down here in Long Beach, something is again happening that is deeply disturbing. Political actions of those running political campaigns that will do anything to win are occurring right under our noses, and no one seems to be paying attention.
I am talking about the proliferation of political signs on privately owned commercial property and on public property, both of which are illegal in Long Beach for very good reasons.
Political signs are only legal on property where the property owner has given permission to place them there. Signs are now popping up again on public property and private commercial by those who work for government and know this is illegal.
If you are going to blatantly ignore the law, why not just change it so it is not illegal? Then your message can be plastered everywhere, and it will be seen by everyone.
Now, as it stands, what you are doing is sending a not-so-subtle message that you are above the law and that it doesn’t pertain to you or your campaign or PAC that is supporting you. And repeated complaints to your campaigns go unheeded. That is what is most disturbing.
You are undermining the morality of society by saying the end justifies the means— the Machiavellian creed that society deems immoral. And it keeps on happening here, election after election.
Be honest, for God’s sake.
