The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) promoted and appointed several employees during a ceremony on June 14. The employees and their new ranks are as follows: Deputy Chief Richard Conant; Administration Bureau Chief Jason Campbell; Commander Steve Lauricella; Commander Michael Lewis; Administrator Thomas Behrens; Administrator Brandon Walker; Lieutenant Ryan LeBaron; Lieutenant Melvin McGuire; Lieutenant Erik Herzog; Sgt. Jarrod Lewis; Sgt. Isiah Hughes; Sgt. Christopher Martin; Sgt. Eric Golz; Sgt. Sovanna Ly; Sgt. Robert Trout; Sgt. Jose Flores; Clerk Supervisor Kinisimary Roberts; and Administrative Analyst Janiece McMullin.
Commander Lewis began his career with the City of Long Beach in 1988 as a recreation leader lifeguard.
He was promoted to Sgt. in 2003 and Lieutenant in 2007. Commander Lewis will be tasked with developing and implementing a plan to restore the proposed South Patrol Division as discussed in the recently passed Measure A ballot initiative, according to the LBPD.
Commander Lewis became a police officer in 1993, and in addition to patrol, held a variety of positions in the Investigations and Support Bureaus, in the traffic section as a motor officer and on the DUI Team, Homeland Security, and the Port Police Unit. He most recently served as the West Division liaison lieutenant.
“I am committed to increasing safety in our neighborhoods,” Lewis said. “I value the importance of open communication with the community, and look forward to building on existing relationships and establishing new partnerships.”
In a press release issued by the City of Long Beach this week, Police Chief Robert Luna lauded the appointments of Conant and Lauricella.
“Richard Conant and Steve Lauricella display dedication and leadership skills at the highest levels and will be assets to our leadership team,” Luna said. “They are fully engaged with our community partners and embrace our department’s core values of ethics, intelligence, and respect.”
Conant, a 25-year veteran, began his career as an officer in 1991.
He was promoted to sergeant in 2006, to lieutenant in 2011 and to commander in 2015.
“I’m excited to begin this new opportunity,” Conant said. “My central goal, in collaboration with our community and city partners, is to advance and strengthen the department’s strategic vision and core values.”
Lauricella began his career with the City of Long Beach in 1988 as a reserve police officer. He was hired as a full-time officer in 1990 and was promoted to sergeant in 1997 and lieutenant in 2013.
