Anaheim Street from Orange Avenue to Pacific Coast Highway will be closed off to vehicular traiffic on Saturday, Nov. 12 from 9am to 3pm for the Beach Streets Midtown Open Street, the third event of its kind in Long Beach.
“We are extremely excited about hosting yet another Beach Streets event,” said Mayor Robert Garcia. “They’re so popular with the community because there is really something for the whole family, whether it’s biking, skating, music, art or just seeing your friends and neighbors out having fun.”
The 2.5-mile route will include several hubs of activity, with festivals, music, demonstrations, food and more.
“We’re looking forward to another wonderful Beach Streets event,” said 3rd District Councilmember Suzie Price. “They are a great opportunity to discover a new favorite business or restaurant.”
Several city departments will participate with healthy, active-living activities, booths and information.
“People are sure to see Long Beach in a new light,” said 4th District Councilmember Daryl Supernaw. “Best of all, Beach Street Midtown will be a lot of fun.”
Several intersections for vehicles to cross Anaheim Street will be maintained along the route, however, the entire route and the extended streets will be closed to vehicles, motorcycles, scooters and anything with a motor. Exceptions will be made for officially marked transportation for those with disabilities.
“Beach Streets is a wonderful event that bring families and communities together,” said 6th District Councilmember Dee Andrews. “This will be the first time the Sixth District and Midtown play a bigger role in the event route. We are going to use this event to highlight our district’s innovation, activity and willingness to keep moving forward.”
According to city officials, tens of thousands of people have participated in the first two open-street events: Beach Streets Uptown on June 6, 2015; and Beach Streets Downtown on March 19, 2016.
