Jesus “Jess” L. Romo, A.A.E., an airport executive with 19 years of experience in aviation, has been named director of Long Beach Airport (LGB). Romo’s appointment will become effective Sept. 6.
“Mr. Romo is an accomplished aviation professional who will provide strong leadership and strategic planning for Long Beach Airport,” said Long Beach City Manager Patrick West. “He will work collaboratively with all stakeholders, including the community, tenants and our commercial and general aviation partners.”
Romo has served as interim deputy executive director for Los Angeles World Airports, overseeing Operations and Emergency Management at Los Angeles International Airport since July 2016.
Previously, he was director of Airports, Operations, overseeing Ontario International and Van Nuys Airports, having worked as airport manager and director of airport real estate.
“I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to working with the community, all airport stakeholders and partners,” Romo said. “I am committed to being an approachable and responsive steward of this great airport.”
Romo’s responsibilities will include oversight of the airport, including operations, finances and leases, the airport noise ordinance, community outreach, environmental matters, capital improvements, tenant relationships, security, air service and public affairs.
Romo has a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from the University of California, Irvine and a master of arts degree in industrial psychology from California State University, Los Angeles. He is an accredited airport executive (A.A.E.) of the American Association of Airport Executives. He is a recipient of the 2015 Award for Airport Executive Partnership from the National Air Transportation Association.
“I would like to thank Interim Airport Director Juan Lopez-Rios for his oversight these past few months at the airport,” West said. “Mr. Lopez-Rios will continue his service at the airport as deputy director.”
Romo is replacing Bryant L. Francis, who resigned as director in February 2016 to accept a position as director of Aviation for the Oakland International Airport.
