High school cross-country teams across the Southland will be following suit these last weeks of summer, as the hilly terrain helps prepare runners for the cross-country season this fall.
Wilson Cross Country has traveled to Big Bear for their week-long High Altitude Training Camp for over 30 years. Runners log hundreds of miles in preparation of running in the altitude, where oxygen levels are lower than what they consider to be normal.
“Besides running in the hills twice a day, the week spent living together creates bonding opportunities that are essential to building a team,” said Head Coach Ed Hauck.
The Bruins will kick off their 2016 cross-country season on Sept. 3 at the Great Cow Invitational in Cerritos.
