Long Beach Heritage is inviting residents to celebrate a Victorian Christmas from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7 at the Bembridge House.
The historic home adjacent to Drake Park has its architectural roots in Britain’s Victorian era. Built in 1906, the Bembridge House, with its wrap-around porch, gabled roof and ornate details, is designed in the Queen Ann style popular during the turn-of-the-century in England and North America. The Bemridge House is the single best example of this architectural style in Long Beach; nearly all of its original features both inside and out remain intact today.
Stepping into the house is like stepping back in time, and that could not be truer than for this holiday season. The home will be beautifully decorated for the holiday as it might have been during the original owners Josephine and Stephen Green’s first Christmas there.
Docents will lead tours of the home, and outside in the carriage house, volunteers will lead children in Victorian holiday craft projects. Guests can also enjoy refreshments, browse the holiday boutique, and have their holiday photo taken with Santa in a vintage fire truck.
Attendance to the Bembridge Victorian Christmas celebration is limited and reservations are encourage. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online at www.lbheritage.org or by mailing a check payable to Long Beach Heritage to Long Beach Heritage, P.O. Box 92521, Long Beach, CA 90809. Tickets will be held at the door.
