A man who was found dead at a parking structure at Cal State Long Beach the morning of Friday, Nov. 4 has been identified and his death ruled a suicide, according to the LA County’s coroner office.
The man was identified as Jerry Vu, a business administration major at the university, whose body was located at the north side of Parking Structure 1 near the Walter Pyramid, according to a campus alert. His death has been announced a suicide as a result of blunt-force trauma, per the coroner’s office.
“My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends,” said CSULB President Jane Close Conoley in an email blast to campus affiliates that Friday.
Vu was a Huntington Beach native and was previously enrolled at the university in spring 2016, according to the campus alert. He was also a performer at the GOOD project, a dance team and company based in Irvine, according to Vu’s Facebook page.
A public candle-light vigil honored Vu’s life on Sunday, Nov. 6 at the student center at UC Irvine. Funeral services will take place over the weekend.
Vu’s brother, Thomas Vu, has opened a GoFundMe page to raise donations for funeral services. As of press time, the page has garnered $12,250.
“We are touched by the amount of people who have reached out to us with their condolences,” Thomas wrote on the GoFundMe page. “The Vu Family would like to extend our deepest gratitude during this difficult time.”
