Police are seeking the public’s help in locating a driver involved in a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a man who was walking in a crosswalk.
On Saturday, Nov. 5, around 7:27pm, officers were dispatched to Cherry Avenue and 55th Street regarding an injury hit-and-run traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian that resulted in a critical injury of the pedestrian, who police are only identifying as a 55-year-old male resident of Long Beach.
When officers arrived on scene, they discovered the injured man lying unconscious on Cherry Avenue and being attended to by good Samaritans already on the scene. Long Beach Fire Department paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a “beige, smaller four-door vehicle” was traveling north on Cherry Avenue when it struck the pedestrian in a crosswalk. After interviewing numerous witnesses, police determined that the vehicle may possibly be a four-door, white or beige Nissan Sentra or Honda. After striking the pedestrian, the vehicle slowed or stopped briefly before fleeing north on Cherry Avenue.
Witnesses also described the two occupants of the vehicle as being male Hispanics. According to the witnesses, the driver-side windshield should have extensive damage from the collision, police said.
On Nov. 10, the victim died from the injuries sustained in the incident.
