“These children would die without this surgery and have no access to surgery in their countries of origin,” Hattendorf said. “Our medical mission work has saved the lives of 4,000 children from 50 countries and operated on children regardless of race, religion or country of origin. I am working to increase the number of medical teams to expand our efforts so that we can save more children and am active with medical mission work.”
Hattendorf, who is a resident of the Virginia Country Club, is a pediatric cardiologist with appointments on national committees to the American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Cardiology and American Society of Echocardiography.
The event took place at Sony Picture Studios with approximately 400 people in attendance, Hattendorf said.
“My award was presented to me by Camilla Luddington, an actress who plays Dr. Jo Wilson on the television series Grey’s Anatomy,” Hattendorf said.
Also honored were Chef Duff Goldman from the Food Network’s Ace of Cakes and Rachel Lester, a senior at the University of Southern California studying cognitive science and digital studies. Her video Superman’s Got Nothing On Israel, featuring Save A Child’s Heart, won first place in the international Israel Video Network contest in March.
