LB Opera teams with Rescue Mission to feed hungry

Long Beach Opera’s (LBO) Artistic/General Director Andreas Mitisek and Rev. Jim Lewis, President and CEO of Long Beach Rescue Mission, recently announced a first-time initiative between the two organizations.
LBO will give $10 from every ticket purchase for its upcoming opera The Cunning Little Vixen to the Long Beach Rescue Mission. $10 will feed five people.
“The arts have always inspired us to think beyond ourselves, especially in difficult times. We see hungry and helpless people around us every day. This partnership is a way to show people that art truly has the power to change the world. For $10 from each ticket we sell, we can make a direct impact upon five people’s lives. Our patrons feed their soul through the performances, but also put food on the table of others. My personal goal is to feed 1,000 people in need through this initiative. During this holiday season, what better time of year to give selflessly?” said Mitisek.
“We are honored to be the recipient of this event with LBO,” said Lewis. “As the arts serve to uplift and inspire, this partnership will provide meals and hope that may lift a homeless person out of their situation.”
Although the Rescue Mission has received funds from organizations through special events, this is the first time a nonprofit arts organization is offering such a partnership program. By setting this extraordinary example, it is LBO’s hope that other organizations will also donate what they can during these extraordinary times.
