Congressmen Alan Lowenthal (CA-47), Don Beyer (VA-08), Earl Blumenauer (OR-03), Jared Huffman (CA-02), Scott Peters (CA-52) and Bobby Rush (IL-01), along with 53 of their colleagues, sent a letter to the House Appropriations Committee on March 31 in support of the United States’ pledges for the Green Climate Fund (GCF), a multinational effort to address climate change.
The letter points out that the GCF is a critical tool for the multinational effort to address climate change and funding would be used to invest in resilient and low-emission development around the world. Support of the GCF by the U.S. is absolutely critical to the fund’s success and ensuring that developing nations are engaged in addressing our climate challenges, according to Lowenthal’s office.
Rush and Blumenauer are co-chairs of the Bicameral Task Force on Climate Change, Lowenthal and Beyer are co-chairs of the Congressional Safe Climate Caucus, Peters is chair of the Climate Task Force of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC), and Huffman is co-chair of the Environmental Messaging Team of House Democratic Leadership.
“No country is immune to a damaged climate, and no country can fix this problem alone,” Lowenthal said. “The Green Climate Fund assists the world’s most vulnerable communities in adapting to a changing climate using contributions from many of the world’s worst polluters, including the US. I am optimistic that, by following through with our commitments to the Green Climate Fund, the US will continue to lead in making our environment safe and healthy— both now and into the future.”
