A crowd of 1,000 is expected to welcome keynote speaker Marian Wright Edelman, founder and president of the Children’s Defense Fund (CDF), at the 18th Annual Interfaith/Intercultural Breakfast on Tuesday, February 24, at 7:30am at the Long Beach Convention Center — Grand Ballroom. Edelman has been an advocate for disadvantaged Americans for her entire professional life. CDF has become the nation’s strongest voice for children & families. Edelman is a graduate of Spelman College & Yale Law School, and was the first black woman admitted to the Mississippi Bar. She is an award-winning author and recently released her current book, The Sea is So Wide and My Boat is So Small: Charting a Course for the Next Generation.
Hosted by The California Conference for Equality and Justice (CCEJ), formerly known as The National Conference of Christians and Jews (NCCJ), the Breakfast incorporates the traditions of several religious and cultural groups that contribute to the ethnic and spiritual mosaic of the community. The event offers the opportunity for people of all racial, ethnic and religious backgrounds to come together to celebrate the rich diversity of the southern California area, as well as share the vision of truly inclusive communities. Breakfast co-chairs are Wil James (President, TABC) and Dr. Beverly O’Neill (former mayor of Long Beach).
Benefactors Gene and Ann Lentzner began their perpetual gift six years ago helping to underwrite all future CCEJ Interfaith/Intercultural Breakfasts, allowing CCEJ to keep ticket prices affordable.
Registration will begin at 6:45am, with breakfast to follow at 7:30am at the Long Beach Convention Center Grand Ballroom. The cost is $38 per person, $380 for a Harmony Table, $500 for a Peace Table, $750 for a Celebration Table, and $1,200 for a Jubilee Table.
