The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) this week shared news of two fatal accidents.
On April 18, at approximately 1:10am, a Long Beach police officer was in the immediate area of 7th Street and Park Avenue when a vehicle-pedestrian traffic collision occurred there.
The preliminary investigation determined the male adult pedestrian was heading eastbound on 7th Street and attempting to cross Park Avenue from the southwest corner to the southeast corner, when he was struck by a 1999 Mercury Mountaineer. The vehicle was being driven by an 82-year-old male resident of Norwalk who was travelling westbound on 7th Street when he made a left turn to head southbound on Park Avenue, and the collision occurred.
The driver failed to immediately stop after the collision and continued southbound on Park Avenue. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at 6th Street and Park Avenue and located the victim, who had been dragged from the initial collision location. Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded, extricated the victim from underneath the vehicle and determined him deceased.
Possible charges against the driver are pending, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Media reports have identified the victim as Dee Frank Daley, 60, of Provo, Utah.
On Wednesday, April 19, at approximately 12:56am, Long Beach police officers responded to the westbound side of the Gerald Desmond Bridge regarding a traffic collision that resulted in the death of a male adult.
Preliminary information indicated the collision possibly involved a motorcycle and a truck, however further investigation revealed that the collision involved a motorcycle colliding into a fixed object. The motorcyclist was traveling westbound on the Gerald Desmond Bridge in the No. 1 lane at a high rate of speed. The motorcyclist lost control of his motorcycle as he approached the rear of two trucks and swerved from the No. 1 lane into the No. 2 lane and collided with a K-rail on the north side of the bridge.
Arriving officers found the unconscious motorcyclist in the westbound lanes.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel determined the motorcyclist deceased at the scene.
At this time, the motorcyclist is only being described as a 52-year-old male resident of Wilmington. The Los Angeles County Coroner will make positive identification and notify next of kin.
