A man is dead after a single-car accident last week, according to police.
On Friday, July 21 at 4:37am, Long Beach police responded to an injury traffic collision at Studebaker Road and Driscoll Street. When officers arrived, they discovered that a 2016 Honda Civic had collided with a wooden power-line pole, causing it to collapse.
The preliminary investigation indicated that the Honda traveled northbound on Studebaker Road. The car impacted the pole at a slow speed south of the intersection with Driscoll Street, resulting in minimal damage to the vehicle. The driver, a 48-year-old male resident of Long Beach, didn’t appear to have any injuries from the collision. However, it appeared that he might have suffered a medical emergency at the time of the incident. The vehicle had no passengers, and the crash involved no other vehicles. Nobody witnessed the collision, police said.
Long Beach Fire Department Paramedics responded and determined the driver deceased at the scene. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The Los Angeles County Coroner will determine the official cause of death.
