GD Bro Burger, 1798 E. Willow St., hosted an honor-wall unveiling event on Sept. 13 that recognized fallen veterans who served in the U.S. military. The unveiling featured a banner that displayed the credentials of the late Army Sgt. Sammy Nguyen, who died during physical combat training in 2008. Sammy was the brother of managing and majority partner of GD Bro Burger Hue Nguyen. During the event, Hue detailed some of Sammy’s life and upbringing and the decisions that led him to joining the Army. The wall-unveiling ceremony also featured remarks from Signal Hill Mayor Edward Wilson, 2017 Mrs. Long Beach pageant winner Autumn Katz, Anthem Church pastor Daniel Katz and Rock for Vets founder Frank McIlquham. Ten percent of the proceeds at the restaurant benefitted programs at the nonprofit Rock for Vets. Local Rock for Vets members also recounted a poem and concluded the event with a rendition of the Taps Army melody.
