Richard D. “Rick” Rose has been selected as the Elk of the Month for the Bellflower Lodge No. 2003.
Rose was born March 4, 1945, in Torrance. In 1962, he left high school with his mother’s permission and enlisted in the Navy, in which he served for three years. After the Navy, he worked as a ranch hand, then in a flour mill and in construction in Texas. He later relocated to Indio, where his parents lived, and took classes at College of the Desert.
He moved to the Midwest, married, then they moved back to Downey.
In 1977, he bought a house in Bellflower and, after working various jobs in construction, became a building inspector for the City of Placentia, where he worked for 20 years, retiring a year ago.
Rose was initiated into Lodge No. 2003 in July 1982. He’s held most offices and chairmanships, including that of exalted ruler twice. This year, he’s a member of the breakfast crew, Rolling Antlers and Scholarship committee. He’s president of the Past Exalted Ruler Association, chairman of Elks Training, and district chairman of the Americanism Committee.
He fills in for officers absent on meeting nights and attended this year’s Hoop Shoot.
