Lisa Patterson (right), pictured with her husband Bob, was an alumna of Cal State Long Beach who was among those killed in Las Vegas on Oct. 1 when a gunman fired shots on a crowd gathered at a music festival.
In the incident, 64-year-old Stephen Paddock fired shots from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on the crowd of 30,000 people who were on the Las Vegas Strip for the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival.
Conoley wrote that the alumna’s name was Lisa Patterson and that, after graduating from Cal State Long Beach, Patterson became a wife, mother of three and member of her community in Lomita.
“I encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the lives that have been unalterably changed by this tragedy,” Conoley wrote. “Victims young and old innocently died in an act of senseless violence, leaving parents, children, extended families and friends to cope with their loss. Many of the injured face challenging recovery efforts, and those who were in attendance and the first responders will have to grapple with what they experienced that night for the rest of their lives.”
The university president called it a time to join together as a community with compassion and empathy.
“You can show your support by your positive actions, such as donating blood or contributing to victims’ funds,” she wrote. “Let’s continue to be good to each other and take care of those who are affected by this tragedy.”
As reported in the Signal Tribune last week, Rachael Parker, a Long Beach resident who worked as a records technician for the Manhattan Beach Police Department, was also among those killed in the incident.
