We will all have the chance to honor our country’s veterans at the Long Beach Veterans Day Parade. Taking place at 10am, between South and Harding streets on Atlantic Avenue, this 21st annual parade will feature grand marshals, floats, marching bands, military vehicles and units, veteran groups, service organizations, ROTC corps, scouting troops, equestrians and other participants sure to bring out the patriotism in all of us.
The Signal Tribune will also be taking part with the assistance of the helpful Honda folks at Long Beach Honda. Knowing that my hubby Steve would not be able to drive for us this year, I reached out to my pals at Long Beach Honda to see if they would be willing to loan us a car and driver for the event. Quick as a minute, they agreed to help us out. I don’t know for sure what car we will be riding in, but whatever it is, it will be adorned with our logo, and I will be riding in the passenger seat; our neighbor boy Ethan and my grandson Carson will be waving to the crowd from the rear windows.
If you’ve never attended the Long Beach Veterans Day Parade, please plan to do so this year. It is definitely an event worth seeing.
For the fifth year in a row, our staff has had the honor of creating and publishing the commemorative program to be presented to parade participants and viewers. Chock-full with articles about the history of each branch of the military, local veteran-related stories, tributes to the grand marshals and details regarding the beautiful veterans mural located at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Harding Street, we are sure that those receiving the program will hang on to it for years to come. We thank the sponsors of the parade and the advertisers for making the publication possible. Those who cannot attend the parade can take a look at our website (signaltribune.com) to see a copy of this year’s parade program.
On our end, I want to thank our staff members Denny Cristales and Sebastian Echeverry, who worked so conscientiously to help create such a special booklet.
A big thank-you also goes out to Val Lerch, chair of the parade. His diligence, support and availability helped make our job much more stress-free than it could have been.
