Thoughts from the Publisher | Dec. 29

[aesop_character img=”https://signal-tribune.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Screen-Shot-2016-09-22-at-5.05.16-PM.png” name=”Neena Strichart” caption=”Publisher” align=”left” force_circle=”off” revealfx=”off”] It seems that the minute Christmas 2017 was behind us, I started hearing sincere statements of “Happy New Year” from nearly everyone I meet. Of course, I expected the sentiment to be offered the last week or so before the calendar is turned to 2018; it is tradition. This year, however, the words don’t seem to be empty robotic statements, but rather have been delivered in voices of clairvoyant certainty.
In my opinion, the general public are feeling more uneasy than they have in recent years. With all of the 2017 natural disasters, political upheaval and the revelations of bad behavior from folks in the public eye, I believe that many of us are attempting to grasp some control of the world around us. It just might be that by declaring “Happy New Year” as a fact, rather than just throwing the words around as vapid declarations of hopes or wishes, we may achieve a sense of a guarantee that 2018 indeed will be happier times.
Part of my 2018 New Year’s resolution will be to keep myself more organized than I have in the past. With new offices, and a new year approaching, the time is right to do some purging and to make a genuine effort to put my belongings where I can find them. I know that doing so would allow me to be more productive in my work life, and to also experience less stress and frustration. It is true that I should at least attempt to do the same thing at home and in my car— but hey, one thing at a time.
By using new technology, such as the calendar function on my smartphone, I have been able to keep better track of appointments and obligations, and I am now using those same methods to plan for fun events too. I definitely need more girls’ nights out.
Now that I have shared with you my thoughts on the new year and one of my plans for a 2018 resolution, here are a few below that I solicited on Facebook from my “friends” :
Gary Weinberger: To have a happy and healthy 2018.
Gerrie Schipske: To win the 34th State Senate District.
Lauretta Ettinger-Harward [my niece]: More time with [daughter] Laurel, exercise, lose weight so I can keep up with [daughter] Heather as her camp counselor this summer, purge home of crap.
Toni Corbin: Get healthy and choose the right foods. Get out and start walking.
Terry Rogers: To stay focused in business and health.
Roy Robbins: Avoid restaurants with TVs! If I want to watch TV, I’ll stay home.
Dennis Cook: To spend more time with my kids, and exercise. From a company aspect, I want to add more good people to my staff here [at CSI].
Debra Montalvo Russell: Journal my favorite family meals, what we ate, what we talked about at the table…then create an end-of-year family cookbook to give to my kiddos.
Mel Krizo: No more massive heart attacks.
Tim Patton: To be a better version of myself. That means working harder for what I believe in, but also allowing myself to step back more often and enjoy what is happening around me and not fixate on the small stuff.
Alexandra Collins [my niece]: Exercise more, start dating and paint more, make copies of my paintings to sell.
Rose Richard: Continue to nourish my friendships and to visit a new place in 2018!
Niki Brown Tennant: Walk more!
Bobbie Soupos: Visit the shut-ins more often and help make their lives more meaningful.
Terry Royse-Mcmahon: Hang out with my grandkids more.
Audrey Stephanie Loftin: To win all my cases.
Reba Birmingham: To sell many copies of Floodlight!
Kathy Berry: To have a happy and healthy 2018. And for my friends also.
Christal Marie Petrak: Work smarter, not harder and work on my retirement strategy.
Kristy Erck [my cousin]: Spend more quality time with my kids, less time on my phone/social media, and also journaling.
Sharon Scott Gillis Mclucas: Save money for cloudy days
Maria Healing Hands: To build bridges and help close the gap with those of opposing political views.
Karen Sharif: Travel more, and stop spending so much time looking at my cell phone!
William Zeilinger: Read more books and get back to my watercolors.
Me: To clean up my language and to go on vacation ! the same resolutions I’ve been making for the past 10 years. Oh, one more! go float with Terry Rogers; she knows what I mean. 🙂
