The staff working behind the scenes for the new Signal Hill library are crossing their fingers for no later than March 27 of 2019 to open the library for the public. At a groundbreaking event on Wednesday, Jan. 24, Mayor Edward Wilson stated that, “Within the facility, patrons will not only find areas for reading and research, but large multi-purpose rooms for library and other events— a dynamic children’s area, a wired lab for technology courses and other academic endeavors, reservable conference rooms for group study, gathering spaces for teens, a dedicated room for historical displays and exhibits and an outdoor patio where patrons can read among the native California landscape. Then, to kick it all off— or, to top it all off, I should say— an upper-deck terrace with sweeping views of the coastline that can be rented for an event.” Tina L. Hansen, vice mayor of Signal Hill, pioneered the development of the library as a “place of hope,” and she explained that she gave up the position of mayor the year of 2018 to dedicate the library when it opens as soon as her term promptly begins on March 27 of 2019. Pictured are Wilson and Hansen discussing the future of the library with a construction site and crew beginning the project behind him.
