California Secretary of State Alex Padilla has released the first of three voter registration reports for the June 5, 2018 statewide direct primary election.
The report shows that 18,980,481 Californians were registered to vote as of Jan. 2, 2018, which was 154 days before the primary election. This is up 1,320,224 since the last report of registration at a similar point in a gubernatorial election cycle (Dec. 31, 2013). Reports will be issued reflecting registration data as of 60 and 15 days in advance of the primary election, according to Padilla’s office.
“California’s statewide primary is fast approaching— make sure you are registered to vote on candidates and ballot measures that will shape the direction of our state,” Padilla said. “If you’ve moved or changed your name since the last election, you’ll need to update your registration. Whether you need to update your registration or register to vote for the first time, it’s quick and easy at registertovote.ca.gov. And if you’re unsure of your registration status, you can check online at voterstatus.sos.ca.gov. It only takes minutes to ensure you’re ready to cast a ballot in this year’s important elections.”
This report reflects routine maintenance of voter registration rolls, including the removal of registrants who have passed away or moved out of state, as well as the addition of new registrants.
