Los Angeles man killed in car accident in Long Beach

A man was killed in a vehicular accident on Feb. 17, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).
According to police, at about 10:05pm that day, officers responded to the area of Atlantic Avenue and Atlantic Place regarding a traffic collision.
When officers arrived on scene, they discovered two vehicles involved in an accident with major front-end collision damage, police said.
The preliminary investigation determined a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by a 27-year-old male from Los Angeles, was traveling south on Atlantic Place. The driver failed to negotiate a turn at the end of the roadway and drove over a raised median and into the northbound lanes of Atlantic Avenue.
The Chevrolet collided with a 2014 Toyota Corolla, driven by a 24-year-old male from Compton, with his 20-year old female passenger from Los Angeles, while they rode north on Atlantic Avenue.
The collision resulted in the death of the driver of the Chevrolet. Long Beach Fire Department personnel determined him deceased at the scene. Identification of the driver is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.
Both occupants of the Toyota were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Alcohol intoxication is not believed to be a factor in the collision, and the investigation remains ongoing.
